Hilltop Workteam

Entry from the teams travel day on February 2nd:
Our adventure begins as Mike Macpherson waits for the doughnuts to come hot out of the fryer from the doughnut store around 6:00 AM.  Little did he know that he would be waiting in line at the deli counter at the airport in Chicago at 1:30 AM for his next breakfast food - not even in Mexico yet!
Yes folks, our original flight to Chicago was very much delayed.  That led us to miss our 1:30 and 3:05 flights to Mexcio City.   As dubbed by the ticket agent, Steve B., M.J., Double M., Mac, Susie R., Christy K. and Darwood were stuck for hours in O'Hare, running back and forth from terminals, playing endless hands of 500 and eating lots of junk food.
We hope to arrive in Mexico City at 6:00 AM in  time to see the sun rise on the bus ride to Puebla.  We are happy to report that Steve's mom, Helen, arrived safely in Mexico and will be waiting for our arrival tomorrow.
Suspense heightens as we wonder where our luggage might be..... especially since we have been booked on three separate airlines today.
Will our bus make it to Puebla?  Will we stay awake long enough to work tomorrow?  Will Steve snore on the plane?
Stay tuned for more news from the Hilltop Mission Team.

Entry from today, February 3rd:
"Did you sleep well last night?" someone at the orphanage asked.... We just weren't sure how to respond after thinking through last night's events.  After a four hour plane ride, a two hour bus ride and a fifteen minutes van ride, we finally arrived at our guest house (with our bags) at Esperanza Viva at 9:00 AM.  Juana, our guide and helper, let us crash on our bunks until noon.  She gave us a short orientation, exchanged our dollars for pesos and took us to the orphanage for a guided tour.
We got to eat lunch with the kids and see where they live and go to school.  Gene and Mike even had enough energy to play a game of soccer with the kids while the girls visited with Gail and Jim Carlson and Susy McNally.
No hard labor planned for us today! (That comes tomorrow.)  Tonight we get to go to church to hear Steve preach.  (I guess they can't be ALL new experiences....)
Will we be able to mix cement by hand if it is raining?  Will Gene and Mike ever stop playing 500?  Will we all stay awake during Steve's sermon?  Stay updated at this blog site daily for the current happenings and events of the Hilltop Mission Team!
