Monday, May 30:
Today we had the opportunity to see the new land. Jim gave us a tour of the buildings currently present and explained the vision for the remainder of the land. If everything goes as planned, all the children should be able to move to the new dorms in winter. Jim walked us to the security building at the gate. The building has been entirely built by mission groups who have come to Puebla. Tomorrow we will be working at the land and our job will be to put a stucco finish on the building.
After our tour, we returned to the orphanage for lunch. Then we had our first activity time with the children. Our groups planned activities for all the boys and girls ages twelve and under. Our first project was to make handprint keepsakes that said, "Jesus Brings New Life" on them. The kids loved putting their hands in blue paint to make the handprints. We came prepared with Wet Ones! We set up relay races with jump ropes and potato sacks. The children really loved those jump ropes! We brought sidewalk chalk to draw pictures. Some of the children wanted to play tic-tac-toe and others made dust and painted their faces. Everyone enjoyed the afternoon. You could see God's love on the faces of the smiling children.
In the evening the older boys came to our house for a pizza party. We ordered 14 pizzas and there wasn't a morsel left. After we finished our pizza with lime and hot sauce, it was game time. Some of the boys played soccer while others had an intense game of ladder ball. Meagan played bean bag toss with the boys, but the game quickly turned into "Keep Away" and "Dodge the Beanbag"! We gave the boys new soccer balls and a football. Before the night was over the boys entertained us with a competitive soccer game using chairs to mark their goals. Watching the boys interact with us and each other was an amazing experience. These boys truly blessed our lives with their company tonight.
