Blog from yesterday, May 19th:
We woke up today around 8:00 and had a quick and simple breakfast because Jim and Gail came over to talk to us about sponsoring a child. We were all pretty surprised to see how many kids need more sponsorship! After meeting these amazing kids, I cannot imagine many of us not sponsoring a child in the future. We also got to learn some of the kids’ stories which were very moving. At about 9:45, Jim drove us out the land again. Today we helped the construction workers make a cement mix for the bathroom pillars. It was really hard work but we were happy to do it. It was also really cool to work with the construction workers because we got to talk to them. We were shocked to find out how young some of them were (16 to 18). These young men were hard working and very inspiring, not to mention their cement mixing put us to shame!
After we finished filling the bathroom columns with cement, we headed down to the control booth to finish the roof there which we have been working on since Monday. After about an hour of team work, (this part of) the control booth’s construction was finally complete! It was a really good feeling to finish a project and see the work we put in actually become something. We were all pretty tired after work but after lunch at the orphanage we got our second wind, which is good because the kids were ready to play! Our activity for the day was beaded bracelet making and create your own bookmark. Again, the activity was a huge success with the kids!
The time flew by and before we knew it we were back at our house again. A few of us went a few blocks down to buy some rotisserie chicken for dinner. It is fun to get out of the house every once in a while and see Puebla! We ended having a delicious dinner of chicken, Mexican rice and watermelon.
We ate and showered pretty fast because we got picked up at 6:30 to go to church. We didn’t really know what to expect but it ended up being a prayer service which was really cool. We prayed for several things like the kids, the construction of the new orphanage, the country of Mexico and more. It was a great time also to reflect on our trip thus far and thank God for safety and guidance he has given us on this trip.
After the service we got to talk to some of the missionaries and hear their amazing adventurous stories! When we got back to the house, we stayed up talking and laughing for a couple of hours before hitting the hay.
We are so excited for tomorrow. We are talking with Josh and Ivonne for devotions and then we are going out the dinner with Juana. It’s going to be so fun! Hasta luego!

I love the pretty fingernails and I bet the girls did too. Did you do Jessica's nails, Emily? Were you playing hand games with Kevin? I miss them and wish I was there with you (except for all the hard work you are doing!). It sounds like your team is really connecting well and having a great time. Miss you! ~Mom/Laurie
