Our first day at Esperanza Viva was primarily
filled with a work project our team and the team from Cross Roads Church was
assisting the staff at EV whit building a retaining wall. This involved
breaking down the dirt, pouring the cement and stacking bricks. I was surprised
to find myself somewhat handy with a shovel. However, 4 ½ hours later of
digging dirt in the sun I felt it.
That evening we had a CIA (time of prayer and
worship) with the trams and EV staff. I prayed for strength that I could remain
throughout this time. I was prayed for by several staff members and found their
words of encouragement over our trip and my life a real blessing. After words
however, I felt very ill. My brother had spent the previous week supervising
the boy’s dorm at Bible Camp and brought home same nasty germs whit him.
I laid in bed that night feverish and
miserable. Shivering under 3 wool blankets, coughing and suffering a headache I
knew that I needed to pray. I needed prayer more than rest and more than
Ibuprofen. I asked my friends out home to pray. I knew my Church family in
Minnesota was praying for our trip. I knew the staff out E.V. had prayed for
our team. I knew my team members were praying for me. When I began my prayer
for myself I began with a ´Thank you´.
I knew only God´s grace had kept me strong
through the day to complete or project and spend time in fellowship. I was
grateful, I prayed to be “wrapped in all the prayers” that had been offered up
in behalf of our trip. In those prayers I knew there was a lot of strength. I
would need a miracle in my body to continue on whit the trip as planned. God
granted my request for health by the next morning and in this way displayed his
power and mercy I continue to be grateful.
