Doranna led us in a devotional this morning about living in the valley where we don’t have control and in a place of humiliation. She shared some of her testimony with us and talked about Matthew 9:22 and the father who believed but asked for help with his unbelief. Lissa also read some verses from Matthew 10 that when read together seem to be all over the ballpark, but many of them relate to things we have learned this week or seen in the EV ministry – a good summary of the week.
For our second outing we went to Cholula to the pyramid. Chelsea and Doranna toured through the pyramid with Juana and then Sue and Lissa joined them to climb up to the top of the hill to see the church. During and after the whole group went shopping, shopping, shopping and bought gifts for sponsor kids, grandkids, friends and Chelsea’s birthday – she now has more yellow scarves than anyone in Mexico!
After lunch with the kids, Sue led us in the 2nd EV Game Day. We had two relay races, one with passing a hula hoop and one where the kids dressed up in different outfits! They had a blast! Then there were three individual games that all the kids played and marked their score. We put the scores in order with the kids with the highest score picking prizes from the prize table first. All the kids received a prize and a Tootsie Pop, even the kids who were sick in the infirmary and were very sad that they couldn’t come and play with us. (They cheered up when they got their prizes.)
Our day ended with Gail, Jim, Jonathan and Erin Carlson treating the team to a REAL Mexican dinner. Their house is nice and very welcoming. Gail made us authentic Mexican food – pozole (soup) with tons of condiments, chile colorado and tostadas. They shared with us about how it has been to transition as long term missionaries. We gave the Carlsons a card with greetings from the team and people from East Hill and a gift for family fun time which they really liked. Then they brought us back to the Guest House with dessert. We had brownie sundaes and stuck a candle in one and sang Happy Birthday to Chelsea and gave her some birthday presents. She got scarves, fingernail polish, a shirt and a CD. If anyone didn’t know Chelsea’s favorite color before, they do now! To end the evening, we had a wonderful time of prayer and Doranna shared some words from the Lord for the Carlsons – it was a time of great blessing and we thank the Lord for the Carlsons heart to serve the kids here!

Sunday – Day 8
This morning we went to church early and were able to worship with the worship team prior to the service. Then at 11am the main service started and worship was amazing! We requested a couple of songs that Fernando (worship leader) played and it was so great to be singing and dancing with all the kids from Esperanza Viva and the people from Nations Church. One of the songs was Libre Soy – I am Free!
After worship Jerry McNally preached about the need to be ready in this season and stay close to the Lord and to listen to His voice, which summed up everything that we have been learning this week. Mary Madsen translated for the team. After the preaching we had some more worship and then fellow ship with everyone. They also took a team picture that they printed for us with individual pictures of the team members that we could purchase as a souvenir.
We went to the home after church and started playing games with the kids. Lissa taught Susy to play cribbage and then Susy beat her twice. The kids also had a lot of fun playing Jenga and Kings Corner. After lunch, we all hung out with all the kids for a couple of hours and just played games and talked and hung out. Around 5pm, the ‘Despidida’ started, which is the Goodbye ceremony. Jim thanked the team for coming and then some of the kids came up front and said thank you to our team. Then some members of the group spoke and told the kids what a great experience we had and that we were so happy to spend time with them. Some little kids came and gave each team member a sucker. For the entertainment, a bunch of kids dressed up as superheroes and started fighting each other to find out who was the best superhero. Then a child dressed up as Jesus came and had victory over all of the superheroes with His sword showing that He has victory over all!
After the ceremony, we all said individual goodbyes to the kids and the tears were flowing (we won’t say who, but we all know =-) It was very hard to say goodbye, but we told the kids we’d see them again next year and they are already counting the months….
Tonight the Carlsons are having dinner with us for some final fellowship time and then it’s time to pack and clean up…until next year! This trip was Super Chido (super cool)!
