Crossroads Church Team

Monday
We started our day out with some exercise, where else can you experience running with an amazing background volcano to be in awe of while you run?
We were able to find and help in doing some planting projects in the “Garden of Hope” here at EV. Because of extra support that came in we were able to plant two trees and do some landscaping as well as plant some more bushes. This was exiting as we got to start and finish this project and witness the transformation from beginning to end.
Some funny things that happened today:
*T.J. was mistaken for Brad Pitt.
*We ate pancakes with spoons.
*We taught the kids how to make dirt cups! (Some thought this concept was funny!)
Phil. 1:6 thank you all for your prayers!

Tuesday
I´m having a great time with kids. They are crazy fast. I can´t catch them when we play tag. They love having chalk. They are way to funny and crazy. Basque ball is their favorite thing to do, even when I’m around. Love bonding with them.

The best part of the day is when I get to connect with the kids and teenagers. Asking them questions on how to say this and that. seeing them smile and laughing as they help me speak some Spanish. What´s funny is that the past two years I took Spanish class and I hated it and always said to myself I’m never going to use Spanish and I’m here in Mexico wishing I studied more and paid attention in class. My plan was not to take Spanish in high school anymore but now I’m planning on taking my 3rd year in Spanish. This trip has been changing me so much.

Thankful for all prayers for me and others on this trip. I´m really enjoying the work projects in the morning and seeing many hands working together to complete a task. Time with kids has been a little tricky for me with the language barrier, but today I got to bond with a couple young boys. Their smiles make the time away from my family worth while. God is really stretching me, but in a good way. I´ve definitely had moments of homesickness , but also enjoying my time here. Kristen and my little peanut Gwyneth, I love you and look forward to seeing you in a couple of days!

Day 3
I feel like I’ve known these children my whole life. Such a blessing they have been to our team. It warms my heart to see so many smiling happy faces. Our work projects have been challenging yet fun. Can´t wait to see what more God has in store for us the rest of the week.

It´s Tuesday and I´m so amazed at how friendly the kids are. They are energetic and willing to do everything we have planned. Today we had chalk for an activity and some of the younger boys covered me in chalk. They drew on me with chalk but I didn´t mind, it was just so cool to see the smiles on their faces!

What an amazing experience this has been so far! Our activities and lessons with the kids have gone really well and have been a lot of fun. Even the work we´ve done on the grounds has been enjoyable because we are working well together as a team. It has been neat to watch us all step out of our comfort zones and do how things and open up more than we have before. The kids here are so great too! They are so open to us and are very funny. I love being here and can´t wait until tomorrow!

Thursday
Today is our last work project day. We have been working on excavating dirt, sorting out the rocks and weeds, and preparing the dirt for cement, and later laying bricks to build a decorative wall along the driveway as you enter the Youth Home. We´ve been working alongside another team the last 2 days.
This morning we were led in devotions by Mary. She talked about how to be spiritually disciplined. It was a very timely message as this week our theme is “Growing in Christ” we´ve talked with the kids about what this looks like through prayer, time in the word, fellowship and testifying about the work God does and continues to do in us.
Some truths we learned today:
1.       Discipline starts with humility 2 Chron. 7:14
2.       Seek God´s face before His hand John 17:2-3
3.       Desire directs discipline Psalm 73:25-28, Psalm 42:1-2
I think all of us have taken giant steps of obedience in coming here and going out of our comfort zone, while we´ve been here. Not all on the team speak Spanish so this has been a stretch to the work we are doing and being patient with each other. We have been a unified team and it´s been so cool to see everyone come together and work together towards a common goal.
God truly has blessed us here and is teaching us he rewards those who love him and obey what he commands. Pray for us as we leave here, that we would not forget all we´ve learned!
Theresa
P.S. Zach, I am feeling great, no neck or back issues or headache since we´ve been here! Also Anna was a little stomach sick yesterday but is back to normal today!
