Friday morning we went to the land for the last time and poured more concrete for the front walls. We also installed forms for the columns and backfilled around them. Our concrete mixing skills are becoming quite improved!
Before lunch Sue and Lissa went to teach a class on evangelism with the students of La Viña, the ministry school here. They talked about a way to present the gospel especially geared towards young people. Sue also shared her testimony and the students were very receptive.
After lunch, we had more activities with the kids. Some of us played games with a big parachute and the kids had a fabulous time running in and out, under and around…we all went under the parachute and talked about how God covers us and protects us. We also brought the quilt squares so the kids that hadn’t made a square yet could finish theirs. Doranna also gave an impromptu drawing class. The kids are very impressed with her artistic ability and asked her to teach them to draw.
At 5pm we went back to the guest house to prepare for teen night, but we weren’t prepared for how amazing it was going to be! We purchased pizza, chips and soda for the teens for a dinner treat. All the teen girls came to the guest house and the men went to the teen boys’ house. After we all consumed massive amounts of pizza, we each had a devotional about the names of God, respectively led by Dan and Adrina. Dan and Adrina both shared their testimonies and blessed the kids. Some of the teen girls were very courageous and shared their stories with us. Many people, the team, the girls, started crying and it was a very blessed time, although I do have to say that interpreting while you’re crying is very difficult! Gail said that this was a great time to share because since she doesn’t have to leave she can build on the relationships that were created that night. Each of the teens also created a quilt square and the designs they made were super creative – super chido (super cool) as they say down here. For a closing activity, we played Names of God Bingo with prizes for all kids: scarves that Susan has knit throughout the year were very popular with the girls, but also small pieces of jewelry and snack shop coupons. For the boys…they loved the hacky sacks and the playing cards that Steve had donated from from the LaCenter Casino. As the guys and girls left, there were many long hugs!
This is the house we are staying in.
