Hilltop Workteam Day Two (Thursday)

Rain, Rain, Go Away!  Our team has learned to always be flexible.  Things just never seem to go as planned.  Today brought torrential down pouring of rain.  For it to rain all night and all day here in this part of Mexico, this time of year is very atypical.  Everyone here comments about how unbelievable the rain and cold weather is.  Meanwhile we wish that we had packed more warm clothes and boots.  Some of the roads were closed this morning on the way to the worksite... oh yeah.... the worksite.... Jim and Susanna took us in a van to see the new land that the new Esperanza Viva is being built on. Since the road is not developed yet, we somehow got stuck in the mud and buried at least 1/3 of the back tires.  We were up to the tailpipe!  Keep in mind that the wind was blowing downpours of rain at about a 45 degree angle as we tried to push the van out of the mud.
We put a few boards under the wheels, got multiple buckets of gravel and dumped them under the wheels and EVERYONE HEAVED!  With many attempts and much effort, we pushed the van up out of the hole.  All of us were soaked to the bone and were covered with mud, but we succeeded in the end!  The new Esperanza Viva will be so nice when it is built.  The kids will have so much more room to eat, sleep, go to school and play.

Since we didn't get to work construction today, we were able to hang out  with the kids all afternoon.  We all had lots of fun just being silly and playing with them. We learned that Steve is a strong caballo (horse) and can carry as many as 10 kids on his back at a time.

The rain has kept us at the group  home, but never fear!....  Mike and Gene are STILL playing cards.  They've even got Susan and Helen hooked now!

We've got clothes laid out drying by the fans, got hot coffee in the pot and the toilet is flushing today.  (Thanks to Gene, Steve and Mike)  What more could we want?  God is taking care of us.

We EVEN got to walk to a nearby restaurant to sample the local food.  It was delicious.  Be sure to ask Mike about the pickled chicken feet on his tostada!

More news about the Hilltop Mission Team to come.
