WEDNESDAY
Our third day of laying concrete. The screeding, floating, raking, finishing, etc. is coming easier. Bill has less to yell about (this is a joke). We are picking up on our duties and working as a team has been enjoyable. The mix of men on this trip has been a blessing the ages, backgrounds and perspectives provide for great conversation on van rides and meals.
After three days of turning down the orphanage chef´s offer to make us lunch we accepted today. We have had little time to stop and enjoy much more than a piece of ham between bread and a bottle of juice or water. Concrete doesn´t wait.
The lunch was delicious; fine roasted chicken mashed soy beans and Mexican spaghetti. We were able to share the meal with the men from “La Viña” it was nice to talk more than just saying “Dump your wheel barrow here” Great guys!!
Our day of work was lighter and more manageable than yesterday. There were moments of panic and stress with too much concrete drying too quickly. Today only two trucks loads and we were done earlier. Dan had us draw straws to see who would leave early at 2pm or stay and help Bill until 3:30pm. Bryon and James were the blessed ones to stay.
We ended with church at Naciones led by the La Viña school students. We all love the passionate worship here. Bill got beat in cribbage. Gordon lead devotions. Everyone has caught the funky town song from Adam. He will be punished.
TUESDAY
Thanks to Bill´s Spanish, we were able to pour 4 trucks or 36 yards of concrete today. Just as a side note. Our devotions have been such a highlight of the trip. On Sunday, James began with talking about expectations for the trip, with everyone giving their perspective. Bill John followed on Monday with thoughts from proverbs about integrity, working and honoring God, Bryon took Tuesday and began with funding nexus, shifting to fathers and sonship and then the importance of being overcomes through Christ Jesus in the trials of life.
The group of 6 men on this team has been singularly focused on doing work as ministry and honoring God in all we do. Whether it is cooking, scrubbing tools, hustling even getting up at 5am, there has been team work at all times.
With our families always in our hearts and work responsibilities waiting when we return, we have pulled together to see the Lord´s will done in Puebla at this time.
P.S. Cribbage games could be a little more civil.
THURSDAY
ALL: Happy Thanksgiving! We have so much to be thankful for being in Mexico among people who live sacrificially for children who have so little is humbling. God has truly blessed us and entrusted to make good use of our abundance.
GORDON: I am thankful for our freedom and democracy. Thank you for our troops who are willing to serve and make sacrifices so that others can have freedom and democracy. They sacrifice so much and are away from their homes and loved ones during the holidays.
ADAM: thankful for God´s mercy.
BILL: is grateful to have talked to his family today. Thanks to Gordon for the phone.
DAN: thankful for health and safety on this trip.
BRYON: thankful for family, fellowship and friends.
JAMES: is thankful to be able to come to Puebla and even more to go home to my family.
We had only one load of concrete today. We finished by 11am, then had a tour of EV Orphanage. Ale took us to Cholula and we climbed the pyramid saw the church. The McNally´s have invited us to theirs house for thanksgiving dinner tonight. In the spirit of sharing what we can for thanksgiving we stopped by SAM´S Club so we can bring a Cheesecake for desert.
