The Harbour Church

August 25th, 2012

So today is our last day at Esperanza Viva. Tomorrow we will fly back to Canada. I think everyone is a bit sad that it is almost time to leave; but also excited to come home and share all of our adventures and stories.
Yesterday we took a trip to the city of Puebla with our leader Raul. He took us to see a huge church with lots of beautiful paintings and decorations. Then we got to go to an authentic Mexican marketplace where we could buy clothes, toys, blankets, bags, jewellery...pretty much anything you could imagine. Some of us who were feeling adventurous tried lunch at local restaurants in Puebla, while others stuck with Domino's and Subway (subs for only $1.75!)
Later on, back at the orphanage, we continued to play games and sports with the kids. It is constantly humbling to witness their joy and love for one another. I think they have taught us all that the only thing we really need in life is God. It is a blessing to have all of the things we do in North America but coming to Mexico has reminded us that none of those things are essential - only God is essential.

Please pray for smooth travels for us tomorrow. Can't wait to see you all!

Love from Brittney and the rest of the team :) xoxo

We have had an amazing week at Esperanza Viva! We finished up our work project on Thursday  and the retaining wall looks great!! We made a great team - digging, moving bricks, mixing cement, pouring concrete, and laying the bricks. It was hard work, but definitely worth it!
The craft and activity times went really well each day. Jim and Curtis both shared relevant Biblical truths with the kids and with the help of a translator, the children seemed to really understand. Soccer, volleyball, and basketball games with the Canadians v. Mexicans have been highlights as well!
Last night, we had the privilege of going to the Nations church for their youth/young adults meeting. The presence of the Lord was powerful and active during worship and as Jim shared what God laid on his heart.
Today is our last day to pour into these children. Please pray that we can speak words of truth, love, and encouragement into their lives. Psalm 68:5 says that God is the "father to the fatherless". That has been very evident during our short time here. I am certain that none of us will leave here the same. Thanks for your prayer and support, we're looking forwards to seeing you all tomorrow!
